Taking place from October 4 to 6 in Hanoi, the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Network (BES-Net) organized a Tripartite Dialogue Conference bringing together delegates from 8 countries: Cameroon, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Nigeria, Trinidad & Tobago and Vietnam. The event marked the first time countries benefiting from the BES Solution Fund within the framework of BES-Net met face-to-face, promoting cooperation and building strategies to solve pressing issues in maintaining sustainable development. Here, delegates discussed the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework based on the latest practical situation at the national, regional and global levels, including reviewing the findings of the Global Biodiversity Framework. Latest published research results from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Forum on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and strategies to enhance effective stakeholder engagement . At the same time, share the impacts, challenges, opportunities and lessons learned of initiatives supported by the BES Solution Fund, in order to provide a roadmap for cooperation and replication of initiatives.
Notably, Mr. Patrick Haverman, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Vietnam, said that choosing Vietnam as the venue for the Conference is evidence of recognition of the efforts that Vietnam has been making. currently aimed at conserving its biodiversity and vital ecosystem services. “Vietnam is known for its unique and valuable biodiversity, one of the most valuable in the world, a country with diverse ecosystems from tropical forests, limestone mountains, marine and coastal ecosystems. sea, with more than 100 species of birds and 10% of plant species that are endemic here", Mr. Patrick Haverman informed.

In addition to perfecting policies and mobilizing resources in biodiversity protection, Vietnam is gradually affirming its important contributions to global biodiversity conservation efforts. Commitments, actions and achievements in biodiversity conservation in Vietnam are becoming experiences referenced by many countries.
According to statistics from the Department of Biodiversity Conservation, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, by 2023 the country will have established 178 nature reserves, including 34 national parks; 59 nature reserves; 23 species and habitat conservation areas; and 62 landscape protection areas. Up to now, Vietnam has 9 sites recognized as Ramsar sites; 11 world biosphere reserves recognized by UNESCO; 12 ASEAN heritage gardens - leading in the region; An important international waterbird migration area on the Australia-East Asia flyway (EAAFP).
The forest area is increasing day by day. If in 1995 (right after Vietnam joined the Convention on Biodiversity), forest coverage only reached 28.2%, by 2022, the coverage will reach 42.02%. In particular, in 2021, the Prime Minister approved the Project "Planting one billion trees in the period 2021 - 2025" to contribute to protecting the ecological environment, improving landscape and responding to climate change. socio-economic development, improving people's quality of life and sustainable development of the country...
On the other hand, from 2017 to 2022, with the support of BES-Net, Vietnam has implemented the development of a National Ecosystem Assessment Report (NEA) with the guidance of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, which specifically, the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment. This includes organizing a series of consultation workshops attracting a wide range of national and international policymakers, scientists and practitioners.
